Watercolor Slimline Card

1st Reason I Love Slimline Cards

The first reason I love slimline cards is that there is so much room to experiment with watercolor techniques. This Goldfish Pond watercolor card was so incredibly fun to make and I learned some new techniques to share with you!

Watch the video to learn watercolor techniques that create waves and flowing seaweed.

2nd Reason I Love Slimline Cards

Additionally, slimline cards are perfect to create scene cards with great visual depth. Here, there’s more opportunity to spread out the stamps to create a deep underwater scene.

3rd Reason I Love Slimline Cards

Of course, you don’t need slimline products to create slimline cards. Don’t let a lack of slimline specialty products hold you back from creating them. Use your trimmer to create a variety of sizes.

Although my favorite size is 3 1/2 x 8 1/2-inches sometimes that’s too tall for the composition. In those cases, I create a 3 1/2 x 6-inch slimline design. Send the smaller slimline in a standard slimline envelope (size 9 or 10 works) or choose a smaller 3 5/8 x 6 1/2 envelope.

Layer Stamp Slimline Cards (Twofer)

4th Reason I Love Slimline Cards

As you can see slimline cards are great for techniques and scene cards. The slimline card also allows you to add more stamps and die-cuts to your cards. So go stamp crazy and load up those slimline cards. Just look at how many large lilies for the You Are Beautiful Set fit on this slimline card!

Praise be, ya’ll, Delicate Stripes Washi Tape is finally released. If you follow me or watched my last two Color Connection With Amber videos, then you know I sneak peeked this washi tape twice! I cannot get enough of this one. Get it before it’s gone!

5th Reason I Love Slimline Cards

Are you a clean and simple fan? The 5th reason I love slimline cards is due to the amount of white space. There’s a ton to work with here. Of course, I couldn’t resist adding splatter with a Jet Black Watercolor Pencil. The process for this twofer set is in the video.

6th Reason I Love Slimline Cards

It’s been a tough year for many reasons. Maybe new stamps and dies aren’t in the budget. But, that’s the beauty of slimline card designs. The elongated format can totally refresh your older stamp sets. So break out your golden oldies and see what new designs you can create!

7th Reason I Love Slimline Cards

Lastly, slimline cards are still novel especially for people who aren’t cardmakers. It’s still unexpected to receive a slimline card in the mail which makes that handmade card all the more special.

I’m sure there are many more reasons to love slimline card designs. Do you love slimline cards? Let me know why in the comments.

Bonus Cards

Now I know what you’re thinking, these aren’t slimline cards. What gives? My new ink pad colors came in a later shipment and these cards weren’t going to make it into the slimline video so I switched things up.

Ornamental Feature 3D Embossing Folder & Northern Shore Inks

Meet the Northern Shore Crisp Dye Ink family. These blues are absolutely gorgeous. They have a light to medium denim wash vibe going on. I ink blended all four colors on Savoy 100% Cotton cardstock and then embossed the panel with the Ornamental Feature 3D Embossing Folder.

Lastly, I lightly rubbed a General’s White Charcoal Pencil over the raised embossed areas highlight the design.

Tranquility Rose Simple Coloring Stencil

As I said earlier, sometimes new stamps and dies aren’t in the budget. Here I chose to use the Tranquility Rose Simple Coloring Stencil as a stand-alone product. And it was highly effective!

This beautiful card showcases all three of the new ink families and they’re gorgeous you guys. Totally unique colors to Altenew’s previous collections.

Folks this is a one layer card with the exception of the Delicate Stripes Washi Tape. I trimmed the washi tape with a craft knife for a custom inlaid look.

・・・ Thank You ・・・

My reason to love slimline cards? I’ve been making cards for nearly forty years, and slimline cards were all the rage for awhile in the ’90s, and because I also have CSAI (craft supply abandonment issues), I can happily resurrect those old envelopes & cardstock sets in my stash now that they’re popular again! LOLOL!

Your card designs are lovely! I especially like your watercolored goldfish/koi card — I love it when happy accidents happen to enhance the design. Thanks for participating & sharing these cards! 🙂
