Zentangle® & Distress Oxide Background

One tiny little stamp, from the Spiritual Sentiments Stamp Set by Simon Says Stamp, inspired this card. The sentiment is, “Created to Create”.

That message got me thinking about the recent discussion on Kristina Werner’s, @staryofmay, Instagram feed, regarding the importance of adding your own touch to your card designs.

Zentangle® for Cardmakers with a Stencil

I truly feel, I was created to create, and I’m willing to bet, you all do as well! This card, is all about using the supplies you own in different ways, adding your own details, & giving credit where credit is due.

To begin, I started by taping Simon Says Stamp Large Dots Stencil to an A2 sized card panel. Using an ink dauber I blended Ranger Distress Oxide in Mermaid Lagoon and Black Soot into the open stencil areas.

Tip: use a slight twisting motion for best coverage.

After the ink blending was complete, I used Distress Markers, in Mermaid Lagoon & Hickory Smoke, and the Zentangle® method of drawing to fill in the background. To learn more about Zentangle® click here.

The base pattern used, is called Cadent and was developed by Maria Thomas & Rick Roberts, the founders of Zentangle®. Cadent was further embellished with a black Pigma Micron 03 pen. Watch the video above to see how the pattern unfolds.

Once the inking was complete, I shaded the recesses with Copic markers in W1, W3, W5, and W7 to add depth. I stamped the sentiment & added a sketchy flower from Simon’s Oh Happy Day stamp set. The flower was embellished with Ranger Glossy Accents.

I hope you enjoyed this card and are inspired to add your own flair to your card designs. Go get creative and remember to Breathe · Ink · Inspire.
