Altenew Build-A-Flower: Gardenia

My niece was the inspiration for this card. She requested a card with “anything but rainbows” so I kept to a neutral palette with a pop of color, glitter, and shine.

I worked backwards with this card and started with a sentiment die cut with Honey Bee Stamps, Hello, Honey Cuts Steel Craft Die. The script hello was cut from teal glitter card stock and the embossed shadow from silver mirror cardstock.

Tip: use a metal shim or a couple layers of cardstock or paper in your die cutting sandwich to ensure a clean cut from glitter paper and mirror cardstock.

The color palette was developed from there using Altenew Crisp Dye Inks in Lagoon, Volcano Lake, Mountain Mist, Industrial Diamond, Silver Stone, and Limestone.

Altenew Build a Flower: Gardenia Stamp & Die Bundle was used to stamp the background frame. I didn’t want a completely symmetrical pattern, so I used a handheld block vs. stamp positioner. While the arrangement is balanced, the pattern from one side to the other is not exactly the same.

Tip: I used 2 masks that I saved and adhered to the stamp pocket after a previous pocket. I prefer to cut masks from a stack of post-it notes to create multiples while only fussy cutting once.

To add more dimension, I cut a frame from the panel with two stitched rectangle dies and popped up the center panel. Though you can’t see it, the fun foam used to back the panel is medium grey to add interest. The sentiment is also popped up with foam tape.

As a finishing touch the card was embellished with 5 clear droplets.

Tip: clear droplets will magnify the area underneath. Placing them just over the edge of a stamped image can add a subtle effect.

This is my 8th submission for the Altenew Educator Certification Program. Thanks for stopping by. Breathe · Ink · Inspire
