Unexpected Twist

This card was inspired by Altenew Academy class, With A Twist, taught by Therese Calvird. In her class, Therese encouraged students to do something unexpected on their cards & that’s just what we’ll do today.

Watercolor Wash Background and Altenew Strength Blooms

I started off this card by watercolor an ombre background on Arches Cold Press Watercolor paper. I used color #57 from Kuretake Gansai Tambi Water Colors set. This has absolutely beautiful colors that don’t require mixing. The consistency of the paint is thicker, more like a gauche than traditional translucent watercolor paints.

Once the panel was completely dry, I used the 3rd & 4th layers of the large flower from Altenew Strength Blooms stamp set to stamp a flower in Ruby Red and Desert Night Altenew Crisp Dye Ink.

Only using the 3rd & 4th layer provides a more artsy watercolor feel and is unexpected. Using a dark blue in lieu of another red from the Red Cosmos set is another twist.

I stamped an arrangement of Altenew Beautiful Day flowers around the focal bloom. VersaFine Black Onyx pigment ink is perfect for this task. Despite the rough texture of the watercolor paper, each flower only needed to be stamped once.

I die cut the focal flower, spritzed the card front and flower with a mixture of water and Ranger Perfect Pearls,  & glued it to the card base using the card front as a guide.

Tip: use more than 1 layer of foam tape or fun foam to add great dimension.

I added a sentiment from Altenew Build a Flower: Magnolia stamp set and called the card done.

Beautiful! Love how you used just a couple of the layers, not all, shows how versatile the stamp set can be 🙂
