CAS Embossed Vellum Cards

The Hedgehog Hollow June 2019 Subscription Box is all about the ocean and for the first time ever includes a 6×6 pattern paper pack! My favorites of the 12 designs are the watercolor wash backgrounds we’ll be using today.

A full reveal (minus the cardstock) of all the fantastic products is in the process video below!

Do you go thru technique phases as I do? I’m currently on an embossing kick and this time I actually remembered to use my anti-static powder tool!!

Prep Layers

When I’m making a set of clean and simple cards like these, I find it’s most efficient to cut all my cardstock layers at once so they’re ready to go. I cut 4 sets, but you could definitely make more!

  • 4.25 x 5.5-inch (A2 size) piece of Neenah Classic Crest Solar White
  • 3.75 x 5-inch piece of watercolor wash pattern paper from the box
  • 3 x 4.25-inch piece of Bazzill 40lb Vellum

After the pieces were cut, I embossed the white panels with a wave embossing folder. The folder is discontinued, so I’ll link other options below. Check your stash, if you don’t have a wave embossing folder, but you have a stencil, you can definitely dry emboss with that!

Heat Emboss Vellum

The trick to embossing vellum without significant warping is to pre-heat your tool and use short bursts of heat.

So, while I stamped and embossed each panel individually, what I’d recommend is to stamp all 4 panels. Then pre-heat your heat tool while you sprinkle your embossing powder on all 4 panels. Next, heat all 4 panels while the tool is still good and hot.

If you get a bit of warping, heat the back of the vellum with short bursts of heat. Once the melted powder has cooled, gently bend the vellum back and forth (see video). You can also place the panels under a heavy book, but I didn’t need to do this.

Card Assembly

Pop up the watercolor wash panels with dimensional adhesive. Hide small dots of your favorite vellum adhesive behind the embossed images and adhere to the watercolor panels.

Today, I used Ranger Multi Medium Matte, but a Large Nuvo Glue Pen is also awesome for vellum! I added a few white Nuvo Crystal Drops and called it done.
