Glitter Cardstock
A finely milled glitter cardstock is a must-have for this technique. Glitter cardstock with a rough finish is more challenging to stamp and heat emboss.
MirriSparkle is my favorite cardstock due to its shine, smooth surface, and ease of die-cutting. Today I’ve used MirriSparkle Gold and Evergreen. For a pop of color and contrast, I added Basis Dark Magenta and Basis Black cardstock.
Tips to Heat Emboss Glitter Cardstock
Simon Says Stamp Just Because Word Mix 2 Stamp & Dies set was sitting on my desk and I thought they would look exceptional heat embossed on glitter cardstock. So, I gave it a whirl.
To be honest, I was surprised at how cleanly they heat embossed! They were all crisp and legible with the exception of Get Well Soon which has super fine negative space text.
Tips
- Use MirriSparkle glitter cardstock
As stated, the glitter is finely milled resulting in clean stamping - Use a stamp positioner such as a MISTI
Stamp more than once for best results on textured surfaces. - Use a well-inked embossing pad
An embossing pad that’s too dry results in patchy embossing. My favorite is WOW! Clear Ultra Slow Drying Embossing Pad. - Use a translucent super fine embossing powder
I tested this with WOW! Primary Ebony Super Fine (translucent) and WOW! Opaque Bright White Super Fine. Translucent powder melted to a smoother finish. - Preheat your heat tool
Preheat before you stamp & add embossing powder. The embossing powder will melt faster reducing the chance of overheating or burning the glitter. - Keep heat tool moving & about 5″ from the glitter cardstock
Again, this will prevent overheating/burning the glitter cardstock.
Ellen Hutson Mondo Chrysanthemum Stamp Set is gorgeous, but if you’re new to coloring it can be intimidating. Heat embossing on glitter cardstock is a fabulous way to add color and interest to this intricate floral stamp.
I heat embossed the Mondo Chrysanthemum and leaves on MirriSparkle Gold glitter cardstock with WOW! Primary Ebony embossing powder. A bit more color was needed to break all the gold, so I heat embossed more leaves on MirriSparkle Evergreen glitter cardstock.
I die-cut the heat embossed elements with the coordinating dies and popped up the flower and sentiment with black adhesive foam. The Basis Dark Magenta card panel adds the perfect pop of color. Nuvo Crystal Drops finished off the card.
