Mondo Magnolia
Ellen Hutson’s line of Mondo flowers by Julie Ebersole is among my favorite large flower stamps. I can’t get enough of their Mondo Magnolia stamp set.
I stamped and painted these magnolias months ago and couldn’t bring myself to cut them up or give them away. Today I thought maybe, just maybe, I might be ready to give these beauties away in the form of a birthday card.
The Mondo Magnolias are stamped in Versafine Black Onyx ink and watercolored with Gansai Tambi paint. I apologize for not taking pictures of my process, I painted this well before I ever considered sharing my work online.
I filled each petal with clean clear water and dropped the two colors of paint in to mix naturally. Once the flowers were complete, I added clean clear water to outside the flowers and dropped in blue to fade out to white.
Next, came die cutting. I held onto this card panel for so long I wasn’t sure I’d be able to cut it in pieces. I used Lawn Fawn Stitched Rectangle Stackables Lawn Cuts to cut an outer frame and inner panel.
I adhered the frame to an A2 sized 4.24 x 5.5 inch top folded card base made out of Neenah Solar White 110lb cardstock with Tombow Mono Multi Liquid Glue. And then I popped the center panel up on black craft foam and adhered it to the card base.
The paint seemed a bit flat so I decided to clear heat emboss the flower stamens. I used a VersaMarkwe pen to add sticky ink to the stamens after treating the surface with a powder bag.
Then I heat embossed the stamens with Wow Clear Gloss Super Fine embossing powder making sure my heat tool was good and hot first.
For the sentiment I die cut two banners with We R Memory Keepers Lifestyle Nesting Dies, Party Banners; one from Simon Says Stamp doll pink cardstock and one from DCWV black glitter paper. I trimmed down the glitter paper to be more narrow.
The pink banner lacked pizazz so I used outlined the outer edge of the banner with VersaMarker and clear heat embossed it to add some sparkle and shine. I added 3 Studio Katia Clear Round Drops to embellish and that completed the card.
Happy stamping! Breathe · Ink · Inspire.
