Let’s get crafty! All the details, ink colors, etc. are in my video above so I won’t repeat everything in the blog.

Fanciful Background Panels

It’s rare that I start with a background panel. Typically the background and sentiment are afterthoughts for me, but not this time. A modern sunset graphic on Pinterest inspired these.

A mix of color blocking, washi tape, and stencil work bring these backgrounds to life. They remind me scenes out of The Lorax by Dr. Seuss.

After creating the Snapdragon and Coral Bliss panel I shuffled through my color swatch cards and chose Altenew Sweet Dreams Crisp Dye Inks color family for my Bellflowers.

Layer Stamp Color Mixing

Once I had created the Bamboo panel, I felt I needed some green in my flowers, but didn’t want to completely change my color family. So I decided to stamp only the base layer in Bamboo and stamp the other layers with Sweet Dreams.

I thought it was positively magical how the hue of the flowers changed. So, I stamped more with Coral Bliss as the base layer and created a 3rd background panel.

Other Elements

  • Altenew Fine Alphabet Dies | YOU, HI, & HBD
  • Altenew Sentiment Strips Stamp Set
  • Altenew Stone Wall Stencil
  • Nuvo Ebony Crystal Drops

I had a blast layer stamp color mixing and I do hope you give it a try. Just remember your color wheel principles. Choose colors next to each other, not across from each other so that you don’t end up with brown. Though color mixing to achieve brown may be just the thing once Autumn comes to town!
