Altenew Educators Floral With Geometric Elements Blog Hop

Altenew Educators Blog Hop, Giveaway, and Linky Party

Welcome to the Altenew Educators hop and linky party! Learn to design with black to add high-contrast to your cards. Big thanks to Nandini Karmarkar for sending you to my blog. Visit the Altenew Card Blog to start at the beginning of the hop.

Designing With Black

Geometric Twist

Rather than going with straight-up geometric shapes, I added a twist with the Altenew Main Squeeze Stamp Set. First, I did simple masking with 2-inch Post-It tape.

Pastel Sunrise from the Martian Terrain Crisp Dye Ink family is perfect for subdued blood oranges. And Misty Moor from Nature’s Wonders Crisp Dye Ink family is fabulous for subtle limes. I adore the new Crisp Dye Ink colors, don’t you?

To keep things simple, I stamped a single layer stamp rather than using all the layers. There’s enough detail in one layer to know these are citrus slices, even with light ink colors.

Designing With Black

If you follow me, then you know I love to design with black. My general rule of thumb is to add black in three places and retain lots of white space.

Altenew Hanging Garden Die Set

Two of my go-to areas for black are my sentiment and black splatter. For the third area, I opted for black floral die-cuts. Hanging Garden Die Set is perfect to add an elegant touch of black.

The open design allows the background image to show through. This prevents the black from overpowering the design. That’s a wrap for today. Sorry, there isn’t a video this time.
