Easy Watercolor Background

Join me to create an easy watercolor background for The Hedgehog Hollow August 2019 Kit stamps. If coloring large florals is not your thing, this is a great technique to easily add tons of color to a large outline floral stamp.

Video Tutorial

Watch this handmade card video tutorial here or on YouTube to learn how to create easy watercolor backgrounds for your cards.

Easy Watercolor Background

Start by covering the watercolor paper generously with clean, clear water. I’m using my favorite watercolor paper, Saunders Waterford High White Rough paper. It’s bright white, and the colors move effortlessly.

Next, start dropping in one color at a time. I chose Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolor pans: 50, 57, and 37. You can paint abstract blobs, horizontal patterns, or whatever your heart fancies; I’ve painted vertical columns.

Watercolor dries back significantly. Add a second layer of color if you desire higher saturation.

Stamp Flower & Sentiments

Ensure the watercolor background is completely dry before stamping the flower and sentiments. I stamped the largest floral from the August 2019 box in coordinating ink.

The sentiment is from Concord & 9th Dahlia Turnabout Stamp Set and is stamped in Altenew Desert Night and Purple Wine Inks.
