Peekaboo Birthday Birdies

This handmade card design featuring Art Impression Birdhouse Cubbies from The Hedgehog Hollow April 2019 Kit, is perfect for a group of friends or co-workers sending birthday wishes.

The Design

So I had this design idea back at the beginning of May, but I was already moving on to designing with the May box. I had saved a bit of alcohol ink panel from my first Hedgehog Hollow project and found it when tidying up. So, I thought, yeah, let’s do this.

The idea was to have a flock of birds flying out from behind cloudy sky alcohol ink strips. It’s a little out there, but I thought it’d be fun!

The Process

The process is so stinking simple. Especially, if you use a leftover piece of alcohol ink panel, pattern paper, or colored cardstock. I cut the alcohol ink panel into 4 strips measuring 3/4 inches, 1/2 inches, 3/8 inches, and 1/4 inches.

Next, I temporarily placed the first 2 panels on the card front to see get a rough idea of where to start stamping the little birdies. I stamped from the bottom left to the top right and increased the number of birds as I went.

I popped the strips up on foam tape and adhered them with the widest piece on the left. The space in between the strips increased from about 1/4 inch to 3/8 inch from left to right.

I used a sentiment from the Birdhouse Cubbies stamp set, “A little birdie told me it was your birthday.” However, I masked “me” with a piece of tape before inking it up.

After stamping, I replaced “me” with “us” using a Sakura Micron 01 pen matching the cursive font. All that was left was to embellish with Nuvo Crystal Drops Gloss White.

It would also be fun to color 1 bird to emphasize the sentiment or to color the birds like a rainbow. Well, that’s a wrap! Let me know what you think of this project in the comments down below.

Thanks so much for stopping by and until next time, Breathe · Ink · Inspire.

If you weren’t able to snag the April 2019 kit, I’ve linked to Art Impression Woodland Tree Cubbies as an alternative stamp set.
