Sensational Stencils + Watercolor

Leaves & Berries Stencil

Create lovely Christmas and holiday cards with Altenew Leaves & Berries Stencil and Artists Watercolor 24 Pan Set.

Sensational Stencils + Watercolor Christmas Card

The trick to this technique is using a temporary spray adhesive on the back of the stencil. Pixie Spray works great for me, and there are others available on the market. Whatever, spray you choose, make sure you use it in a well-ventilated area.

Follow the spray directions and press the stencil onto an 4.25x 5.5-inch piece of watercolor paper.

Next, choose your colors and start painting. It’s that easy! Here I used Green Meadows & Red Cosmos from the Artist Watercolor 24 Pan Set. Gently remove the stencil and allow the panel to air dry.

A merry sentiment from Festive Silhouettes is stamped with Ruby Red Crisp Dye Ink on a Rounded Rectangle die cut. The sentiment panel looked lost on top of the leaves and berries. Therefore, I die cut a larger rounded rectangle and watercolored with Green Meadows.

Wonderful Wreath Stencil

Wonderful Wreath Stencil lends itself well to any occasion, but it’s particularly spectacular for the holidays!

Use the same technique with this card. Paint the stencil four times allowing the panel to dry completely between each layer. If you use a heat tool, hold it approximately 8 inches away from the panel to prevent warping.

Shift the stencil between each layer to ensure you can see all four layers of leaves. For this card, I mixed Green Meadows with varying amounts of Pure White for three of the layers. For the blue layer, I mixed Starry Night and Pure White.

Lastly, stamp your sentiment in Obsidian Pigment Ink and add a bit of splatter with the leftover paint mixtures.
