Altenew August 2020 Stamps/Dies/Stencils/Wax Seals Relese Blog Hop
Go ahead, add a little bling to your envelopes and packages with Altenew Wax Seals! I’m unboxing Altenew Wax Seals, sharing first impressions, a demo, and featuring Altenew Beauty Within.
Welcome to the Altenew Summer Nights Blog Hop. If you made your way here from the lovely Maryam Perez‘s blog you’re right on track. Go to the Altenew Card Blog to start at the beginning.
Altenew Summer Nights Release
From iconic florals to campfires, constellations, and wax seals, there’s something for everyone in the new Summer Nights Release. What caught your eye?
Watch the vid here or in HD on YouTube. While you’re there I’d love it if you like, subscribe, and share it with friends!
Beauty Within & Nesting Ovals
This may sound crazy, but it was the large leaf cluster of the Altenew Beauty Within Stamp Set that supercharged my creativity. It’s a perfect cluster with a 3-dimensional quality that begs to peek out of a window. So that’s exactly what I did.
A mask created with one of the Nesting Ovals dies created the perfect window for the leaf cluster. And, the sentiment, True Beauty Comes From Within, echos the design.
Polychromos Color Pencils
Although the background is painted with Altenew Artist Watercolor 24 Pan Set I opted for Polychromos pencils for the foliage. I thought color pencils would create the luminous glow I was after.
Yellow Center
Walnut Brown, Raw Umber, Burnt Ochre, Dark Naples Ochre, Cadmium Yellow, Light Yellow Glaze, Cream
Flowers
Dark Indigo, Magenta, Dark Red, Rose Carmine, White
Leaves
Warm Grey V, Earth Green Yellowish, Light Green, White
Yep, color pencils are magical, but dang they take forever and a day. This is an achingly slow medium for me. Not sure if it’s my lack of technique or just the nature of the medium, but there are at least four layers of color pencil on each of these images.
Tropical Forest Enamel Dots finished off the card.
Amaryllis Stamp Set
Switching gears, I created a completely different look with the Amaryllis Stamp Set. This time I experimented with using Crisp Dye Inks with Mixed Media Inks.
Dye & Pigment Ink Color Combos
I wanted to see how the Crisp Dye Inks and Mixed Media Inks played together. So, each flower is stamped with a different combination of dye and pigment ink.
Mixed Media Ink = pigment
Crisp Dye Ink = dye
Bottom Left
Outline Midnight Violet dye
Layer 1 Lavender Fields dye
Layer 2 Coral Berry pigment
Layer 3 Ruby Red pigment + Midnight Violet dye rock n’ rolled
Bottom Right
Outline Ruby Red pigment
Layer 1 Frosty Pink pigment
Layer 2 Midnight Violet dye
Layer 3 Coral Berry pigment, Midnight Violet dye rock n’ rolled
Top Right
Outline Midnight Violet dye
Layer 1 Frosty Pink dye
Layer 2 Coral Berry pigment, Lavender Fields dye rock n rolled
Layer 3 Midnight Violet dye, Coral Berry pigment rock n’ rolled
Centers and Pollen
Layer 1 Buttercream dye
Layer 2 Maple Yellow dye
Stamens
The prototype stamps were missing the stamen stamp so I drew them in with a Sakura Micron 08 pen. Otherwise I would stamp them with Obsidian Pigment Ink.
Shades of Purple Enamel Dots and a bit of graphite shading finished off the card.
Altenew Wax Seals
Bring vintage style to your handmade cards, gift wrapping, and paper crafting with the new Altenew Wax Seals product line. Altenew has curated a stunning selection of wax colors and stamps for your projects.
Watch the video for my unboxing, first impressions, and demo. As you can see in the video, I’m a complete newbie and need a bit of practice. The Wax Beads had less of a learning curve for me and my favorite colors are the Garnet and Enchanted Gold.

That slimline card is amazing. I love those colors.
I just ordered the Beauty Within Bundle, so I was so excited to see it in your blog today! Love both of your cards, using two different techniques, but it is the sliimline that I really love the most. So elegant and the window showcases that gorgeous flower so well!
Very nice cards! I must say, your coloring is amazing! I want learn to color like you when I grow up!
Beautiful cards! Thanks for sharing these. And thanks for the great video. It is so much fun to watch you create.
Amber, I am not familiar with the Zentangle method? I absolutely love the look of pencils, and it is my favorite medium but you are right when you say it takes FOREVER!! At least for me also. Your cards just look so beautiful. You can’t get all the highlighting and layers with markers. The pencils give your cards so much depth and layers. It makes me want to do pencil again. haha I still do pencil for hair no matter the medium due to the highlighting ability.
Thanks for the amazing inspiration! I absolutely love all the great ideas! Makes me want to pull out my supplies and start playing!
As always, your cards are stunning! I just love your colouring on the flowers on your first card! So very eye-catching!Thanks for sharing! Take care! 🙂

Isn’t it funny how different things inspire our creativity? I’m so glad the leaves did it for you, because they look incredible, especially spilling out of the frame as they do. And you were right that the colored pencils would create that luminous effect. Just a stunning card from top to bottom.
