Altenew Celebrating Parents Blog Hop
We’re celebrating parents, those lovely folks who have supported us through life, with a card drive, hop, and giveaway! The goal is to send cards for the elderly that live in nursing homes or shelters to let them know they’re not forgotten. Check out Card Drive info here.
Altenew is supporting seniors by donating 20% of the profits earned from select stamp sets (Best Dad, Painted Rose, Extra Special, Lotus, Cross Stitch Flower, and Best Mom) by 6/16/2019 to the Food Bank of Central New York to support seniors in need.
If you made your way here from the amazing Anna Komenda’s blog your right on track. If you’d like to start at the beginning click here.
I’ve got a set of 3 cards here with totally different styles, so hopefully one or more of them appeals to you! Normally, I coordinate my cards for a hop, but you know different strokes for different folks and all!
Altenew Rennie Roses
This is a clean and simple one layer card inspired by Charles Rennie Mackintosh stained glass design.
One rose from Rennie Roses Stamp Set was stamped and then covered with the coordinating mask prior to stamping the leaves. Hand drawn lines were added with a Sakura Micron PN pen and a t-square ruler.
The images were colored with Altenew Artist Markers in the following colors: Velvet R217, Crimson R206, Coral Berry R304, Forest Glades G715, & Frayed Leaf G702
The touching sentiment is from Altenew Wild Hibiscus Stamp Set.
Altenew Painted Rose
This is one of my all-time favorite Altenew sets. The blooms are large and the layers are so forgiving that the set is perfect for beginner stampers.
The roses were stamped with the following colors:
Yellow rose – Citrus Burst, Fresh Lemon, Maple Yellow, Honey Drizzle, Cotton Candy
Orange rose – Sunkissed, Orange Cream, Autumn Blaze, Firebrick, Cotton Candy
Leaves – Bamboo, Olive, Moss
Be sure to watch the video as it demonstrates the rock and roll technique I used to add a secondary color to some of the layers.
A black and white piece of paper from the Verdant Walk Paper Pack was trimmed down and another sentiment from Wild Hibiscus was stamped and gold heat embossed.
The pattern paper and floral elements were popped up with dimensional adhesive.
Coffee with a Splash
Dad’s need the love too and Coffee with a Splash Stamp Set is perfect for my dad! I did some 2nd and 3rd generation stencil inking for this card, so be sure to check out the video for tips.
I started by ink blending Milk Chocolate Crisp Dye Ink over Altenew Halftone Stencil. The amount of brown was too distracting for a background, so I spritzed the leftover ink on the stencil with water from 8 inches away and pressed an A2 sized piece of Neenah onto the stencil. I call this 2nd generation inking.
This was better, but still too busy so I moved on to 3rd generation inking and repeated the process. I was very happy with this result because there was a large area near the center with little to no ink. That bare spot was a perfect setting for my coffee cup.
I stamped the coffee cup in black and whoa, there was too much contrast! So I shifted my card panel a few millimeters down and to the right and stamped again in Milk Chocolate. This toned down the black and added a mixed media vibe which I thought gelled well with the background.
I added some black spatter with flicks of Jet Black Ink Spray, popped up the panel, and called it done.

Wonderful card designs!
I love the second and third generation images. I have heard of this before, but thought of it only in terms of stamping. I would never have thought to do it with the ink left on a stencil. How clever. Thank you so much for sharing. <3
I love the stain glass rose too. Gorgeous.
Great cards. The last one is my favorite. I like the background and the way you shifted the mug and restamped it in the brown. I also like the hand-drawn lines added to the Rennie Rose card. Very pretty.
Love the floral cards, didn’t like the cup of coffee until you explained it and I remembered Father’s day. I am always going to go for the bright and floral. Great videos!
