Dry Embossing
Dry embossing with stencils is one of my favorite techniques to add a tone on tone texture and pattern to clean and simple cards. You need an embossing pad to dry emboss with stencils.
Refer to your die cutting machine’s packaging to determine the appropriate sandwich. I recommend practicing on scrap cardstock until you find the correct sandwich.
The perfect sandwich for my Gemini Jr. from bottom to top is: (see video)
Cutting plate
Plastic shim

Cardstock
Stencil

Combine Dry Embossing with Heat Embossing
My heat embossing is cleaner when I dry emboss the cardstock too. The embossing ink goes on the raised positive pattern more uniformly with crisp edges.
When the ink is spread onto the stencil and impressed into the negative spaces with a die-cut machine the result is clean and detailed.
