Watercolor Botan Peony

Large floral stamps rock my world and Picket Fence Studios Botan Peony is exceptional. The petals are wide open leaving plenty of room for watercolor pigments to move and blend.

Picket Fence Botan Peony

Before coloring, I loaded the image in my MISTI and stamped it with Altenew Obsidian Pigment Ink.

Today, I colored with Summer Afternoon, Red Cosmos, and Rain Forest pigments from the Altenew Artists’ Watercolor 24 Pan Set. Bright bold colors and high contrast black were just what I needed to pull me out of my slump.

WOW! & Watercolor Botan Peony

After the watercolor was completely dry, I stamped the image again with WOW! Clear Ultra Slow Drying Embossing Ink and heat embossed with WOW! Black Glint Embossing Powder.

WOW! Black Glint Embossing Powder adds the perfect amount of sparkle and texture to your projects.

For more inspiration using Black Glint, check out this post where I dry brush it onto a silhouette beach and palm trees.

For best results, heat emboss glitter embossing powders from underneath the cardstock. This prevents the glitter from blowing away before the powder is melted.

Copic Botan Peony

Now, if bold colors aren’t your thing, this soft Copic colored version is for you. Try heat embossing with WOW! Gold Pearl Embossing Powder and Copic coloring on Curious Metallic cardstock to create a dreamy effect.

WOW! & Copic Botan Peony

Tip to Copic Color a Heat Embossed Image
If you color directly over embossing powder, it could damage your Copic marker nibs. To prevent this, either avoid coloring over the embossing powder or stamp your image with ink, color it, then restamp and heat emboss after your coloring is complete.

Copic coloring on Curious Metallic cardstock creates a painterly effect and lightens the colors of the Copic markers. Virtual Pearl Curious Metallic cardstock is one of my favorites.

Look how Virtual Pearl cardstock color shifts to a blueish tone in 2-3 of the petals below. This combined with the creamy gold metallic finish of WOW! Gold Pearl embossing powder is gorgeous!

Elevate Your Vellum
Elevate the vellum shadow die-cut by stacking 2-3 lovely word die-cuts underneath it. If you stack multiple pieces of vellum, the vellum becomes more opaque. Stacking the lovely die-cuts underneath preserves transparency of the shadow and eliminates the need to cut tiny pieces of foam tape.
