Altenew Educator Hop | Favorite Old & New Stamps
Who doesn’t love a throwback? Today, I cased the first card I made for the Altenew Educator program. I definitely had a facepalm moment in the video so do check it out.
If you made your way here from Teri Stokes blog you’re in the home stretch! To start at the beginning visit the Altenew Card Blog.
All the details to create this loose watercolor card are in this 5-minute watercolor cardmaking video. Watch it here or in HD on YouTube. While you’re there I’d love it if you like, subscribe, and share it with friends.
1st Altenew Educator Card
Below is the 1st card I made for the Altenew Educator Program. I submitted this card on February 12, 2018. It was fun to take a trip down memory lane and I was surprised to see I made a shape card!
My style has changed over the years. But, even in my earliest days of card making I was using lots of high contrast black. Here I used traditional layer stamping. In today’s example, I opted for loose watercolor with the same color palette.
Check out the blog post here.
Case Your Own Card
Have you ever cased your own card? Recreating your own cards is a great way to get those creative juices flowing when you’re short on time, inspiration, or mojo. Keep it interesting by changing a few elements.
Instead of layer stamping, I opted for loose watercolor. Now you know I love watercolor stamping, but in this case it’s far more efficient to watercolor the outline images and omit the detail layers.
This time I used a sentiment from the Altenew Beauty Within Stamp Set and added purple splatter instead of pearls. Seriously, that might have been the one and only time I used pearls on my card.
And though I started making this a circle shaped card, I decided to mount it on a top folding A2 card base. You’ll have to let me know which you prefer.

Lovely card! I am new to card marking but still sometimes repeat a previous design or use it for inspiration. It’s nice to know someone as talented as you do the same thing. The colors are amazing!
How fun to see your evolution! It does make me realize too how my style and interests have changed. Your update is very pretty. Thanks for the inspiration and the reminder to look back to jump start creativity.
I have seen so many people on social media complain about loosing their crafty mojo. What a great idea to revisit your own cards and make them new again! I am going to pass that along to anyone I see who is struggling from now on. Thank you!
Love it that you can laugh at yourself! Beautiful card – the old one and the new one!
I like how the ink looks irregular on the last one. Very cool

More lovely throwback cards! This was such fun…. Enjoyed the video even more as you poked fun at yourself…why? Not totally sure, other than YOU are an artist…some of us not so much which is why we stamp!
I love how you used circles in your designs and the colors!
Beautiful! This is one of my favorite sets as well!
I remember that round card! I could never get tired of these gorgeous painted roses, Amber! I have a tendency toward the standard A2 version today!
Off to watch!

I don’t have this set, but I love Rose’s. The round background is a neat idea. Also neat to go back to old cards and put new ideas. I havent listened to the video. I’m saving it until I have more time. Thanks
Wow! I am so surprised that a few of you remember the round card. So crazy. Thanks, Charleen!
Beautiful card – I especially love that sentiment!
Beautiful cards and I love them both. The Painted Flowers stamp set was my first Altenew set and I still love the look of those flowers.
